Dear Delegates,

On behalf of the South African Tissue Bank Association (SATiBA), it is my great pleasure to welcome you to our annual conference, which will take place from 5 to 7 November 2026 at the Krystal Beach Hotel in Gordon’s Bay, South Africa.

This year’s theme, Growth with Purpose: Sustainable and Ethical Advances in Tissue Banking, reflects our collective commitment to advancing the science and practice of tissue banking in innovative and responsible ways. As we stand at the intersection of medical progress and ethical responsibility, this theme invites us to consider how growth in our field
must be guided by principles that ensure long-term sustainability, respect for human dignity, and the highest standards of patient care.

Human tissue transplantation has transformed countless lives, offering hope and healing where once there was none. Yet, these advances come with profound responsibilities.

Sustainable growth requires us to balance innovation with stewardship; ensuring that our practices safeguard donor integrity, promote equitable access, and foster trust within our communities. Ethical advances demand that we continually refine our frameworks for consent, transparency, and accountability, so that the future of tissue banking is not only technologically advanced but also morally sound.

Over the course of this conference, we will explore cutting-edge developments in tissue preservation, transplantation, and regulatory frameworks by engaging in dialogue on how to integrate sustainability into our daily practices whilst upholding ethical principles in the face of rapid scientific change. Together, we will chart a course for a future where tissue banking
continues to grow—not just in scale, but in purpose.

I look forward to welcoming you to Gordon’s Bay, where the beauty of the setting will inspire our discussions and strengthen our resolve to advance tissue banking responsibly. May this conference be a space of learning, collaboration, and vision for all who attend.
